More than a voyage into the past, an
archeological tour of Sicily opens a window into the human spirit. Sicily is a magical land of myth and legend
where Persephone, the Cyclops, Arethusa and Vulcan dwelled. Archimedes and Plato lived here, and Saint Paul visited.
Among the ancient inhabitants of Sicily were the Sicanians, Sikels, Elymians, Ausonians, Greeks,
Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans.
 icily
is the place where the Western world meets the Eastern one, and much of its past is readily seen. The temples of Agrigento and Segesta are among the best preserved in the
ancient Greek world and Syracuse (Siracusa) was once the most important of Greek cities, while Erice, Mozia and Palermo afford the visitor the chance to see something of
Punic civilization. Sicily is dotted with ancient Greek and Roman archeological sites. Some are rather remote but others, such as Taormina's ancient amphitheare, boast stunning locations.
Archaeology is an integral part of any visit to Sicily. We'll be happy to plan a customized archeological tour of Sicily for your group, even if it is rather
small (five or six participants). And yes, we can organize academic tours for university classes. Simply contact us to begin. We also offer several regularly-scheduled, fully-escorted tours of Sicily which include a healthy dose of ancient archeology - more
than enough for most tastes. (They're described on this page.)
The itineraries are well-planned, frequent departures are guaranteed
(we never cancel) every two weeks during every month of the year, and group size is small. These aren't "economical"
or "mass market" tours, but they are affordable and they include
more than you might usually expect at this price. You can read about each
tour in the folowing comparison chart on this page with links to more detailed
descriptions (another page includes tour faqs and information about our company).
Our Sicily tours are about ancient archeology, medieval civilization and colorful legend. There's no substitute for seeing a place like
Sicily, and an escorted tour of offers a long glimpse across the shadows cast by a
lengthy multicultural history. It's not just the places and the vestiges of a series of cultures, but even the people
and the food that make these tours - and Sicily itself - very special.
When is the best time to visit Sicily? While we offer enjoyable scheduled tours of Sicily throughout the year, we believe that
the best months to visit are from early March through May and then from late September through November, avoiding the hottest and
coolest months. But any time is a great time to see Sicily!
